1. What is Thooyamalli Rice?
Thooyamalli is a heritage white rice variety from Tamil Nadu, known for its natural jasmine-like fragrance, soft texture, and easy digestibility. The name means “Pure Jasmine” in Tamil. It has been cultivated in the region for generations and is prized for its clean, light grain.
2. How is this different from Mapilai Samba Kanji Mix?
Mapilai Samba is a red rice variety—dense, high in antioxidants, and traditionally associated with strength and stamina. Thooyamalli is a white-heritage rice—lighter, more aromatic, and easier to digest. Thooyamalli Kanji is better suited for sensitive stomachs, elderly individuals, and recovery diets, while Mapilai Samba is better for energy and nutrition density.
3. Can I give this to my baby or toddler?
Yes. The plain variant (without added spices) is suitable as a weaning food for infants from 8 months onwards. Always prepare fresh, ensure smooth consistency, and consult your pediatrician before introduction.
4. Is it suitable for sick or recovering individuals?
Absolutely. Thooyamalli Kanji is light, warm, and easy on the digestive system—making it one of the best foods during fever, illness recovery, post-surgery, or any period requiring a bland, nourishing diet.
5. Does it contain any preservatives or artificial flavors?
No. Our Thooyamalli Rice Kanji Mix contains only natural ingredients. The aroma comes entirely from the heritage grain itself—no artificial jasmine flavoring or additives are used.
6. Is it suitable for the elderly?
Yes. The soft porridge texture and easy digestibility make it an excellent daily meal for senior citizens, particularly those with dental issues, low appetite, or digestive sensitivity.
7. How do I prepare it?
Mix 3–4 tablespoons in 400 ml of water, stir well, and cook on medium flame for 8–10 minutes, stirring continuously. Serve hot. Add cold-pressed sesame oil or palm jaggery for a traditional Tamil flavor.
8. Can I have it during weight management?
Yes. Thooyamalli Kanji is naturally low in fat and light on the stomach. As a controlled-portion breakfast, it provides steady energy without heaviness—suitable as part of a balanced diet.
9. What is the shelf life?
6 months from the date of manufacture when stored in a cool, dry place. Always reseal the pack tightly after use.
