At What Age should I Introduce Ragi To My Baby?
You can introduce millets to your baby from 6-8 months of age. In India,it is commonly followed as baby’s first food.
However, consult with your Pediatrician before introducing any new food to your baby.
How to Sprout Ragi and Make Your Own Ragi Flour at Home?
- Wash and clean the finger millets in clean water.
- Drain the water and repeat the process until the water runs clear.
- Soak the grains overnight.
- The next day, drain the water completely.
- Place a clean cloth on top of a steamer and spread the ragi evenly on it.
- Ensure the grains are not sticking together.
- Gather the ends of the cloth and tie them together.
- Let it sit for 8-9 hours. Small sprouts will appear.
- In summer, sprouting takes around 8-9 hours; in colder weather, it may take longer.
- Let them sit for another 8 hours to grow longer sprouts.
- Spread them on a cotton cloth and let them dry completely.
- Tip: Store the dried sprouts in the refrigerator for freshness.
How To Make Ragi Flour At Home?
- Dry roast the sprouted ragis in a skillet on low heat.
- It roasts pretty fast, hence regular stirring by the side with full attention is needed.
- Cool it completely. This is to prevent lumps when your grind them.
- You can go to your nearest mill to grind them.
- Or you can grind them using food processor.
- Make sure the flour is cooled down and keep them in a airtight container inside the refrigerator.
- Now your homemade healthy flour is ready!Ragi flour is also available in supermarkets.
How To Make Home Made Ragi Cookies?
Ingredients:
- Ragi flour – 1/2 cup
- Organic jaggery – 1/2 cup
- Wheat flour. – 1/2 cup
- Cold butter. – 50 grams
- Milk. – 2 tbsps to knead the dough
Method:

- Add the cold butter and mix it with your hand.

- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 15-20 minutes until they turn brown at the bottom.

- Let them cool in the tray for 5 minutes before serving.
