Pearl millet is a cereal crop which is grown at a very large scale in India. No doubt it will get well adapted to areas characterized by drought, low soil fertility and high temperature. The height of a plant ranges from 0.5 to 4 metres.

It contains vitamins like E, K, B6, thiamin, niacin, riboflavin, and folates.

It is also a rich source of minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, sodium and potassium.

Nattu kambu are small, round and golden yellow.

Pearl millet is mainly used to make bhakri flatbread. It is also boiled to make a Tamil porridge called a kambu koozh. They are made as Dosa, idli, adai, puttu, upma, kozhukattai and chapati.
